Dear Readers,

We close 2025 with the thirty sixth issue of our newsletter.

At the global level, COP30 in Belém set the direction for climate action in the years ahead. This issue opens with an overview of what was agreed, what remains open, and India’s position in the negotiations. We also include an article on Kyasanur Forest Disease, outlining seasonal risks relevant to tourists visiting forested areas in Goa at this time of year.

Closer to home, 2025 also marked the closing phase of the Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection project. The final workshop offered a moment to take stock of seven years of work, share learning across institutions and reflect how these experiences can inform future approaches to wetland management. While this project concludes, engagement on wetlands remains a part of the programme through other initiatives.

This issue also includes a short look back at selected updates from 2025, for readers who may have missed some of the year’s conversations.

As the year comes to an end, we thank our partners and readers for being part of this journey. We wish you a very happy new year and look forward to continuing this work together in 2026.

Warmly,
Editors
